Before 2016 comes to an end, we would like to thank everyone very warmly who helped us to carry on with Holy Cross Academy project.

You have been so supportive to hear our call and to come to our aid. Some of you have been very generous, both in Kenya and in other parts of the world.

Thanks to your contribution, the school construction is almost finished. The small wing of the building is still incomplete, but we'll resume work in January 2017. Nevertheless, the heaviest part of the construction of now behind us, though a year ago we were really wondering how to go ahead!

This success, which we wish to share with you, is a pure miracle! We owe it to your generosity. Thanks to you all who have supported the project with their alm givings! Thanks to you all who have prayed and are still praying for the Kenyan Mission! Thanks to you all who have simply expressed their friendly sympathy in various manners when you received our newsletters and pictures! Your spiritual, financial and friendly support has been so precious for our perseverance in this project!

Our gratitude must be raised up to St Joseph. On 1st May this year, we have put the construction site under his patronage and protection. We even dared to place his statue at the place of the Sacred Heart! Saint Joseph graciously heard and has assisted us this far beyond our expectations. May He be blessed in eternity!

Thank you very much to all the benefactors who are sponsoring Holy Cross Academy project. The Kenyan faithful have raised a large contribution during a very successful Harambee held on 6th November.

The progress of the construction is very good and very fast, so that we shall open six new classrooms in January 2017 for the new school year. The number of pupils will also grow drastically: they were 91 at the end of 2016, they will be between 120 and 150 in year 2017, with a staff of 9 teachers.

You can still support Holy Cross Academy project with your donations. You can also sponsor a child's school fees for the year 2017. Your contribution will make a difference for the disadvantaged children.

This 27th October was graduation day and the end of the school year 2016! Many pupils have won prizes! But above all, they have expressed their gratitude to their teachers and parents with a beautiful show!

This was a good occasion for a big community photograph, together with the pupils, the teachers and the workers who are building the future school! A very big Thank You to all our benefactors!

Now it is pupil's time for holyday. As for the Missionaries, it is time for even more intensive work in order to complete the construction building and to prepare the opening of the next school year starting in January.

This Sunday 12th June, Rev. Fr. Niklaus PFLUGER, First General Assistant of the SSPX, has honoured Holy Cross Priory by his presence. He celebrated the high Mass in the morning. And then, in the afternoon, he visited the construction site under the supervision of Mr Josef, the main contractor. He has not dissimulated his immense satisfaction with the construction progress. He then shared our meal in the priory’s garden, and also the joy of our community.

May God bless him for this visit, and may He always keep this joy in our heart!

Masonry work at Holy Cross Academy

Four masons, one concrete mixer operator, eight assistants and five stone cutters: these are the working staff erecting walls on two floors for almost two months now.
Yellow, red and blue stones come directly from the quarry. The cutters cut them with delicacy. Each one lines up to 40 feet of cut stones at the end of each day.
Meanwhile, George operates the concrete mixer, calculating the exact proportion of cement and sand. This precise mixture will make the whole building strong and solid.
The eight workers bring all the stones up to the first, and then the second floor. They also bring up the concrete buckets and the water pots.
Upstairs, the four masons Charles, Steven, Kilonzo and Wycliffe receive all these materials and build up the walls, stone after stone on the aligned plumb line, perfectly straight.
Some mistakes may happen at times, but not so often. In this case, some plain of a wall may be destroyed and rebuilt on the next day. Do, undo and redo is always work in progress!
One, two, and eventually seven classrooms are taking shape. An additional room will be the teachers’ meeting area. Three bedrooms will be for sisters’ accommodation.
Of course, the pupils do not enter the construction site. Nevertheless, they are very observing the progress of the building of their school…

Corpus Christi Procession

The Kenyan faithful have endeavoured to offer the most beautiful ceremony in honour of the Blessed Eucharist, in this Corpus Christi feast day. For the first time, the church was overcrowded. Some extra benches were put outside to give chance to anyone attending the High Mass. The Missionary Sisters from the Noviciate in Karen have joined the choir to sign the Gregorian chant.

During the Holy Mass, 16 children and adults have received the First Holy Communion.
At the end of the Mass, the Blessed Sacrament has been carried in procession in the area around the priory, known as Kawangware. Most of our parishioners live in this area, and they were very proud to receive Jesus’s visit in their home place.

The first altar of repose was settled in the courtyard of the small house where our three sisters live, in the midst of this area. The second altar was in the school hall.

The Priests, Brother, Sisters, the children of the catechism classes and of the school, all the faithful, young and old, have participated to celebrate the most wonderful procession in honour of the Most Blessed Sacrament!

Launching the construction work!

This Monday morning, a new team full of joy and energy has started working again on the construction site of Holy Cross Academy. The construction manager is a German and his name is Josef. He has valuable experience and a heart rich of generosity! Under his sweet authority, the team of about ten masons and artisans will improve their skills!

The first step is water and electricity connection. A caterpillar is hired to open trenches and to put the various water pipes and electric wires.
A water tank of eight thousand litres is put on a slab built on the ground. Then water pump is connected to fill up the six thousand litre tank under the roof.
The electrician replaces the meter, checks the amperage of the various machines, and makes control panel with the various fuses.

Meanwhile, the architect and the engineer are finishing the plans and drawings, before submitting them to City Hall for approval. It’s almost done!

Stones, cement bags, sand, and the concrete mixer are delivered. The scaffolding is coming soon. Well, everything is ready!

Feast of St Joseph the Worker

Great feast of the Kenyan Mission on this Sunday 1st May 2016! The District Superior, Fr. Loic Duverger, has come to celebrate the solemn mass, assisted by Fr. Becher, the Sisters’ chaplain, and Fr. James Ngaruro, our Kenyan confrere.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Fr. Duverger unveiled and solemnly blessed the new statue of St Joseph, purchased and offered by the parishioners.

After Mass, the priests and the faithful have shared a parish meal, famously known as “nyama choma” or Kenyan barbecue. It was not a fat cow, but a nice goat that two butchers have slaughtered and cooked for about 200 assistants.
The older parishioners have given some talks to express their gratitude to Fr. Duverger who will leave his position as District Superior on 15th August.

This celebration was also an opportunity to launch the new phase of the school building construction, which was stopped for about a year. What is surer than placing the site under the protective sight of St Joseph the Worker?

Prayer to St Joseph Model of artisans, by Pope St. Pius X

O Glorious St Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in the spirit of penance in expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honor to employ and to develop by labor the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty to work above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so baneful to the work of God.

All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O Patriarch St Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity.

Amen

The Fathers, Brother and Sisters of Holy Cross Priory, Nairobi
are happy to wish you a

Today we celebrate Jesus Christ's rising alive from the dead. We celebrate His Victory over death and over our sins. We celebrate His Triumph upon our souls to whom He opens the source of Grace and the gates of Heaven.
This year, three SSPX priests were present in Nairobi. This gave us the opportunity to have all the ceremonies of the Holy Week in the Solemn Traditional rite of the Catholic Church, with deacon and subdeacon.
These very beautiful ceremonies made us to follow every moment of Jesus's Life, during the Last Supper, His Agony, His Passion, His Death and His Resurrection.

19th March - Prayer to St Joseph, Protector of the Church

The grotto of St Joseph, at the Priory during the month of March
To Thee, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulations, and, whilst imploring the aid of thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that love, which united thee to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by the fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace the Infant Jesus, we humbly beseech thee graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by His Blood, and to help us in our necessities by thy powerful intercession.
Protect, O most provident guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Jesus Christ. Ward off from us, O most loving father, all taint of error and corruption. Graciously assist us from Heaven, O most powerful protector, in our struggle with the powers of darkness and, as thou didst once rescue the Child Jesus from imminent peril to His life, so now defend the Holy Church of God from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity. Shield each one of us with thy unceasing patronage that, imitating thy example, and supported by thy aid, we may be enabled to live a good life, die a holy death, and secure everlasting happiness in Heaven. Amen.

The Sisters' and teachers' devotion to Holy Cross Academy

Sister Clara with her class 2 students
The first term of 2016 already comes to an end. At Holy Cross Academy, the children are writing their term exams.
Gently and joyfully, Fr. Peter, the School Director, has disposed everything needed for a good discipline: the ringing bell with its exact alarm clock, the classical music during the meals, the gaming area where the children can let off steam during recreation times... so many things that helps the children to keep calm and concentrate during the classes!
The five Kenyan teachers have never been so happy to teach! Two ladies teach the 3 Kindergarten classes, while a gentleman and two other ladies teach the 5 Primary classes. Everyone shows so much enthusiasm to have the best teaching skills!

The Missionary Sisters devote themselves completely to the various tasks, sometimes unnoticed, but so necessary for the good discipline and the good spirit of a school. They supervise the children's behaviour during meals, the tidiness of their clothes, the good Christian Charity in the recreation field. Every day, they lead the Morning Prayer in the chapel, and then give a catechism lesson in each classroom. And everybody, even the teachers themselves, enjoy to join them for the midday Rosary in front of the grotto!
